A statistical app for the famous board game Bluff or as it is also called Liars Dice. It is a dice game played by 2-12 (or even more) people by bidding on how many dice of a certain kind will be present. This App helps you with the probabilities, so that you can focus on who is lying, and decide if you should Bluff or not.
This App does not in any way play the game (there are several apps out there doing that). This App helps people understand the underlying likelihood a certain combination of dice will come up. The App can be used in two ways;
1) On an iPad on a stand in the middle of the table, set to PUBLIC mode, showing all the overall likelihoods. This is great to get people started in the game, even if they are not good at probabilities.
2) In PLAYER mode where a player can use the app, also adding his known dice to get an even more accurate calculation. Unless all people in the game are using the app, this is not very likely to be approved by the other gamers :-) I have of course used it like this a couple of times to test the App (and won), but mostly this mode will be used to analyse the numbers, testing before or after you have played to better understand what happened.
The App is fully free for calculations of up to 5 players and free of any ads. With an upgrade inside the App (using In App purchase) you will be able to do calculations of up to 12 players.
Some people will claim this kind of calculations are not needed, or that such an app is cheating. I will have a different opinion. It is of course cheating if one of the players is using the app without the others knowing, bit especially the PUBLIC mode will help everyone around the table in the same way, and allow people to focus more on the actual game, and less on the statistical analyses.
I have also found it very interesting to sit and play with numbers and note that depending on the number of dice, some positions on the board actually change order (between the wilds and other dice).
